New Hampton, NH
April 24, 2008
"ICE OUT" on Lake Winnipesaukee occurred at
8:00pm April 23, 2008. The official "ICE OUT" was
declared by Dave Emerson of Emerson Aviation
of Gilford.
Observers have maintained a close watch of the
disintegrating ice over the past several
days. A large
mass of ice had moved into Center Harbor bay and
the lack of wind allowed it to remain the last
stronghold.
"ICE OUT" becomes official when the route of
the MS
Mount Washington is clear and navigable.
That is,
the ship must be able to cruise among its
five ports:
Alton Bay, Center Harbor, Meredith, Weirs
Beach, and
Wolfeboro. Records of "Ice Out" date back
into the
1800's. The earliest "Ice Out" reported was on
March 28, 1921 and the latest on May 12,
1888. On
average Ice Out appears in mid- April. The
event
serves as one of the annual omens of warmer
weather, creating much speculation locally.
More
importantly, the occurrence signals the
advent of
another tourist season.

Well, most of France decided to link to us yesterday, along with the NY Times, and many many others. Our host could not handle the traffic, so they suspended our account. Right now the website is on a temporary server, and will hopefully be back up and running fully in the next day or so. The "visitors yesterday" shows only 12,000 however the number was probably 10 times that (due to the fact no one could get to the website). MANY features of the website are still broken!

The ISP shut down not only our website, but our email capabilities as well. If anyone tried to email me, please try again!
Please be patient while we rebuild the site, and get all the areas functioning again.

Welcome Nicolas Sarkozy!!
Enjoy Wolfeboro and Lake Winnipesaukee,
try some of the local restaurants (I would suggest Lemon Grass in
Center Harbor, and East of Suez right up the street, no trip would be complete without a stop at the Wolfetrap, and a few beverages and good eats at Garwoods)- and for a great
cup of coffee go to Lydia's Cafe, downtown! (had to get in a few plugs)
We hope to see you downtown!

p.s. if you want to learn to wakeboard, the BEST water sport on winni, drop a line!

Rudy Giuliani was downtown today, shaking hands, and
scooping ice cream at the Bailey Bubble. Traffic was brought
to a halt on Railroad Ave for a while as a large crowd gathered
to see the 2008 Presidential Candidate.
Also, Stay tuned for more information on the "Président de la République française"
(The President of France) Nicolas Sarkozy - as he is due in town in a few days for a two week stay in Wolfeboro.
