Nope, has nothing to do with Obama. I am just a firm believer in the right to own guns for self protection. Has nothing to do with political affilition.

I grew up in Nazi Germany and I will do my best to see that it doesn't happen here and it won't until I run out of bullets.

I think people are scared about this economy and they're making sure they are well armed to protect their homes and families from looters.

I don't think it has that much to do with 2nd Ammendment rights as the news would lead you to believe. I think people are scared - really scared!

The nightly news last night said the vast majority of gun sales was in Texas. They also are one of the ones on the list of the biggest deficits, the biggest immigration issues, the biggest unemployment etc. It's no wonder those cowboys are scared!

They are not the only ones that are scared.

I've been in this country since 1949 and I have never seen the economy this bad.

What I am afraid of is that there will be people braking into homes to help themselves to the things they can't afford to buy and I will be ready for them. Count on it.

Re:Guns 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
As I remember it, life in the Carter years were unpleasant. I live on Mirror Lake in an area where my neighbors have all closed up shop and headed for places south. I can't tell you how enjoyable it is. Quiet, quiet, quiet. I'm looking forward to a wonderful winter - just me, my grandson, our pets, and the wild animals that we see all the time in the yard. Love it. But I must say, that there are moments when, coming in from the car in the dark, I have scary thoughts since it is so desolate here, and I am pretty much alone most of the time. I'm not sure that having a gun would be a benefit, but the thought has crossed my mind.

It's directly associated with the 2nd Amendment. Maybe read up on it and you'll even get the spelling right!

"Looters" don't strike when structures are occupied.

CW - Good communication rests in if the message is delivered and received. I've spoken up for many people who have misspelled things. It's not very flattering to be critical of people who are trying to deliver a message. We can't all be as perfect as you and I know I certainly wouldn't want to be...

You got my point....didn't you?

Furthermore, just how do you think an Obama administration is going to change the 2nd Amend? I truly believe many of the fears are not people thinking about the 2nd Amend but rather fear of people breaking into their homes, cars, personal property. It's already happening so it's bound to increase as the economy and unemployment gets worse.

For heaven's sake - let's not drift off into picking on lousy spellers and people who don't know grammar. It's the message that's important. Are we more concerned with "one-upping" everyone and having the last word, or in actually discussing something? Criticism is a healthy thing, but no need to be mean spirited about it, although I must admit the temptation is almost overwhelming. Sometimes I have to skip responding so I won't be sarcastic or just plain nasty. I hope this stifling of natural instincts doesn't adversely affect me and result in a murderous rampage at some later date........

It is difficult not to be sarcastic or nasty when replying to CW's posts and sometimes I just can help myself. He is certainly and expert at getting peoples emotions fired up, especially when he posts things that are not true.

Back to the subject. Here is what the New Hampshire Constitutions says: [Art.] 2-a. [The Bearing of Arms.] All persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, their property and the state.

I can asure you that this article will never be changed. So, at least in New Hampshire, all you gun control people, GET OVER IT.

Re:Guns 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
Here is part of an email I received today:

I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. I said I did. She said 'Well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!' To which I said, of course it is loaded, can't work without bullets!' She then asked, 'Are you that afraid of someone evil coming into your house?' My reply was, 'No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too.' To which I'll add, having a gun in the house that isn't loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.

Burglars LOOK for Guns! 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago

Anyone who claims to know the Constitution of the United States shouldn't be spelling the word "Ammendment" over and over.

Do a search here on the misspelled "ammendment", and you'll see that those least supportive of the US Constitution will repeatedly misspell it—that being (Lady Aurora, Dragonfly, and wildman).

You're drinking the Kool-Ade again. The spike in gun sales occurred after the election!

Even "soft-ball" Slate.com writes:

QUOTE:
"...some sort of "Obama effect" does exist.

"During the week of Nov. 3-9, the FBI received 374,000 background requests, 'a nearly 49 percent increase over the same period in 2007,' CNN.com reports.

"...news stories indicate that some buyers are keen on buying so-called 'assault weapons', which were banned from 1994 until 2004.

"Many gun enthusiasts worry that the Obama administration and Democratic Congress will reinstitute the ban and pass other restrictive legislation.

"Although Obama supports 'common sense' gun laws, his idea of what constitutes common sense differs from that of most gun owners..."

Moreover, protection from burglary is by security devices. A "Burglary" occurs when nobody's at home. (Burglary does not meet the legal criteria for the crime-victim's perception of personal fear).

When there's somebody at home, it's called a "robbery", as in "home-invasion robbery".

"Fear" makes it a robbery: some will chose to defend their property at risk to themselves, some won't. I know the difference.

In 1986, I once fired five shots at a carload of home-invasion robbers. If I'd had more firepower than that little Chief's Special revolver, that car would have been leaking all kinds of fluids!

Days later, their next home-invasion victim was Robert Shevin, Attorney General for the state of Florida!

We lived in rural Minnesota for a decade. Out there it was Sherrif's patrols and they generally only had two officers out for the whole county so you could only count on them finding your body at some point, not giving fast response. I found a nice little shotgun, called a Rossi Stagecoach model. Side by side double, 18" barrels, external hammers so you can see if it is cocked easily. You really don't have to aim it as an anti-personnel gun, just point and let the 00 buck do its work. Both the wife and I can use the gun, maintained in easy access with a bandolier type sling with extra rounds.

I too think we may be in for some hard times. During the Great Depression there was a civility to the nation, people cared for each other. My wife's uncle was a short order cook in a Chicopee, MA diner back then. They would get all the out of work, down and out guys coming into the diner, looking for food. The owner told him to give each one a coffee, a bowl of stew and a piece of pie, and don't worry about whether they can pay or not. I don't think that generosity exists today nor do I think the down and out people will respect other's property. After all we have already seen gasoline thefts, fuel oil thefts, and firewood thefts. Coveting thy neighbor's property may well be the watchword of this downturn, people are really scared.

A relative works at Fidelity in Boston, just avoided this layoff but now they announce another 1700 to go early in 2009. She tells me the mood in the office is "funereal" these days. On the news today, a guy is laid off and goes back to shoot the CEO dead. Yup, times are different and the nation's response to hard times will be different this time around.

OC, you know I think "poor" is different today than it was back then. The people that came needing a bowl of stew really NEEDED something to eat. Today it is hard to feel sorry for some of these people who are poor and"can't afford" certain things, can't pay their bills but sure have enough cigarrettes, beer, cell phones, cable, etc. I truly sympathize for those who have lost their jobs and are WILLING to work as I think it is a different situation now. There truly are NOT a lot of jobs. However, in the past, I think half the popluation of the country needs a lesson on MONEY MANAGEMENT! I hope you can understand what I am trying to say. And I know it is a bit off topic.
