There are 100 senators. 57 vs. 43 means a majority (and add in the leadership assigning committee assignments and VP to break ties for good measure. If you are referring to possible filibuster, when did the GOP have 60? You can't have it both ways. Besides we have a change to post partisan government accoridng to Barry. At least in NH, the Dem have admitted they have to deliver. Sen. D'Allesandro was quoted saying as much.

The last time Dems had 60 votes in Senate, was 95th Congress. President was Carter and Dems also had majority of House.

Thanks for the clarification because I thought when it was said the Democrats have control that means they were filabuster proof which is not the case currently. Obviously they aren't really in control if the Republicans decide to filabuster.
