Abenaki Rope Tow Opens Sat. 1-27-06 Print E-mail
Written by Ralph Hansell
Friday, 26 January 2007

The Friends of Anenaki group is working hard to bring
permanent snow making to the main hill. For this year they have now succeeded in covering the hill top to bottom using a portable system and the hill will be open this weekend as well as after school each day! The bunny slope is also often and has a new dedicated rope tow for the little ones.

We encourage you to support their efforts: a vibrant and busy Abenaki facility will in the long run be a boost for cross country in Wolfeboro in terms of exposure, snow making, the Nordic Youth program etc.

The rope tow schedule this weekend:

Sat 11-5
Sun 12-6

Daily ticket cost: $1.00 !!!!

Spread the word to all kids, friends, neighbors and family! Bring your XCskis too!

ICE OUT on Lake Winnipesaukee! Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 24 April 2008

New Hampton, NH April 24, 2008 "ICE OUT" on Lake Winnipesaukee occurred at 8:00pm April 23, 2008. The official "ICE OUT" was declared by Dave Emerson of Emerson Aviation of Gilford.

Observers have maintained a close watch of the disintegrating ice over the past several days. A large mass of ice had moved into Center Harbor bay and the lack of wind allowed it to remain the last stronghold.

"ICE OUT" becomes official when the route of the MS Mount Washington is clear and navigable. That is, the ship must be able to cruise among its five ports: Alton Bay, Center Harbor, Meredith, Weirs Beach, and Wolfeboro. Records of "Ice Out" date back into the 1800's. The earliest "Ice Out" reported was on March 28, 1921 and the latest on May 12, 1888. On average Ice Out appears in mid- April. The event serves as one of the annual omens of warmer weather, creating much speculation locally. More importantly, the occurrence signals the advent of another tourist season.
